What is a street team?
A street team is a group of people who want to help promote music that they believe in and want to see rise to the top. A street team is not a fan club but rather a TEAM with a purpose and mission committed to grassroots promotions by “word of mouth.” Word of mouth, is the passing of information by verbal means, especially recommendations, but also general information, in an informal, person-to-person manner, rather than by mass media, advertising, organized publication, or traditional marketing.Word of mouth can be spoken communication and/or web dialogue, such as through myspace, blogs, message boards and emails.

Word of mouth is effective because people are more inclined to believe word of mouth promotion from people they know rather than more formal forms of promotion because the communicator was satisfied by the goods or services provided and is unlikely to have an ulterior motive (ie.: they are not out to sell you something).
